Theme of October: Halloween

This month theme is Halloween! I love the carved pumpkins with the funny, scary faces.
Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31.
The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallow's Evening.Traditional activities include trick or treat, bonfires, costume parties and carving Jack-o-lanterns.

What can you make? Carved pumpkins, bat's, a hounted house or castle, spiders in a web, black cats, funny dressed up people, skeletons, ghosts... just use your imagination!

Welcome to the gallery of cats. I love the variety of these artworks. I think the cats of Susan and Wilma must definetly fancy eachother!

Theme of September: Hello cat!

Welcome back to the Difference of 25.
We had a small holiday break, but now we are ready to start a new theme!
This week I read the news that my favorite Hello Kitty character is not a cat at all, but a girl!!!!!

I quote a piece of The Los Angeles Times:

Theme 30: If I were an animal

I am sorry I could not post the gallery on time, but my life was very busy last weeks.

It is fun to see the different kind of animals. It strikes me that we have 3 cats! I was doubting if I would make myself a busy bee or a happy rabbit :) But I choose the happy one. 

I hope you all have a nice summer vacation. The difference of 25 is going on a summer break. We will be back the first of september with a new theme.

Interview Petra Coumans

During coming months we will have more information about the participants. Some of them are joining the blog from the beginning! Time to read more about their dreams, favorite artworks and hobby's.

Today Petra will tell you more about herself, by answering some questions.

1. When did you join the blog and why? 

I joined the blog from the start. Drawing is my hobby ánd my profession, but I usually don't take the time for drawing as  hobby. Professionally, I mostly work on surface pattern designs for textile and stationary, for instance for department stores. The blog is a welcome opportunity to spend time on drawings just for fun again.

2. What is your favorite material? Or way to work?

I always start with a grey pencil, black ink or a fineliner. Most of the time I start with a rough sketch and finish it on the computer with Photoshop or Illustrator. When I draw by hand I like using colourpencils, pastel or oil crayons mixed with acryl paint or ecoline, mix materials and collagetechniques.

3. What other hobbies do you have?

I like to read, eat, make walks or runs in nature (I hope to get a dog soon to join me), go to the theatre, visit musea, go to the sea, visit new cities, go on a holiday with my husband and two daughters.

4. What inspires you?

For my work, I get inspired by retro (children's) book illustrations, retro illustrations in old magazines, art, nature, children and animals. Other illustrators blog's inspire me as well.

Theme of June; If I were an animal...

Hi to all of you. Time seems like flying these months. Today is already the first of June, and time for the new theme!
This month theme is: If I were an animal I would look like this!
I love animals, unfortunately we don't have any pets anymore...

We had a hamster , goldfish and several guinae pigs. Now and then I look after the dog of friends.
Regretabble a lot of us are allergic to animals, so new pets better be avoided.
I think this is also the reason I am making a lot of care free pets at the moment.

Fish you don't have to feed, cats without hairs, dogs you don't have to walk and birds you don't have to clean!
When I was in high school I had a friend who knew for sure she was an animal before this human life.
And this is what this month theme is all about. Of course if you don't believe in this stuff you can also pick an animal you really like or an animal that fascinates you.

Welcome to the gallery of birdhouses! We have a small but completely different collection of birdhouses. So I hope you enjoy watchting The difference of 5 :)
New this month is Marian Dessing. We know eachother from "De zelfgemaakte markt" in Utrecht. This is a very nice market which is this saterday 31th of May on the Mariaplaats in Utrecht.

Unfortunately I won't be there this time, as I am running the Color Run in Amsterdam!

1. When did you join the blog and why? 

From the start, I am a blogger myself and liked the idea Roos started this creative blog with people from all disciplines.

2. What is your favorite material? Or way to work?

Due to lack of time I rarely get my drawing equipment out of the cupboard but it’s on my bucket list to go back to drawing with pencils and paint. I love life drawing! But for now I like to work with photos and digital media like Photoshop and CAD.

3. What other hobbies do you have?

I love the outdoors, nature, being surrounded by plants, animals, the sun, the moon and the stars. Everything I do when outdoors is my hobby, from an intensive hike to reading a book in the hammock under the mulberry tree. From a five day kayak trip on the ocean to gardening and producing my own food and from walking the dog twice a day to the cuddle sessions with my cats.

4. What inspires you?

Everything and everyone inspires me, the world is so beautiful, especially when you open your eyes to see it! www.deseosdesign.blogspot.com.au

Wilma and I met at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Now she lives in Australia!

Theme of May: Birdhouse

Sorry to keep you waiting for the new theme. At the moment I am very busy with my Etsy shop. If you want you can visit me: www.rosesarerednl.etsy.com Besides this shop I am also busy making new things for the Swan Market in Utrecht next sunday.
But I am not the only one who is busy! The birds are nervously looking for a place to breed.

Of course they can build a bird's nest. But we can give them a hand and make a birdhouse. You can make it as fashionable and chic as you want.
